Different skin tones react differently to certain things. Some are able to handle exposure to the sun, and others take strain when walking from the house to the car in full sunshine!
The same is true when it comes to self-tanning products. Different skin tones require different self-tanners to help give them a natural, flawless summer looking tan.
Many men and women with Asian skin tones find it difficult to find the right self-tanner, and often just skip using it at all. The truth is that there are some really great self-tanning products that can bring out their natural glow and give them a beautiful sunless tan.
Fake tan doesn’t have to be used only by pale, fair-skinned people. It can be used on many different skin tones and types, and can even help to cover blemishes and marks, giving a flawless look to any skin.
So, if you are nervous to dive into the world of self-tanners because, admittedly, it can become quite confusing, here is a list of the best self-tanners for Asian skin tones.
5 Self-Tanners For Asian Skin Tones
Below are the best self-tanners for Asian skin tones.
1. Bondi Sands Everyday Gradual Tanning Milk

Bondi Sands Everyday Gradual Tanning Milk is my absolute favorite gradual tanner for any skin type. You can use this product every day until the desired tan is achieved, so it is customizable for anyone.
One caveat to this product is that I actually don’t follow the application instructions on the bottle. Those instructions say to apply the tanning milk without any moisturizer on your skin. I’ve found that having a light layer of moisturizer on my body before applying this product helped to achieve a more natural, streak-free glow.
Try it out for yourself and see what method works for you. In general, drier skin will benefit from applying moisturizer first, while oilier skin will be okay as-is.
So what makes Bondi Sands Gradual Tanning Milk the best for Asian skin tones? Because it’s best for all skin tones! It really is an amazing self-tanner for everyone.
2. Tan-Luxe Illuminating Gradual Tanning Lotion

The Tan-Luxe Illuminating Gradual Tanning Lotion is a unique lotion/oil hybrid gradual self-tanner that is customizable for any skin tone.
You can continue to build your bronzed glow with daily use. You can apply this to your skin as a normal body moisturizer. Thanks to the oil in the formula, this glides on easily so that you get an even tan.
One thing to note: I don’t recommend using this tanning lotion for an extremely deep tan. It is best just to use for a subtle bronzed glow. This rule goes for all gradual tanners.
Why? Consider how many layers you are applying. With just a few layers and a subtle tan, you won’t notice the fading if you were to stop using the product. However, if you applied layer after layer for weeks, then you would eventually see the difference between the areas that fade more quickly.
Anyways, I love this formula and think it is a wonderful option for Asian skin tones.
3. Tanceuticals Self-Tanner

Tanceuticals offer this safe and gentle self-tanner that gives skin a gorgeous color, as well as an amazingly fresh scent. The exclusive formula ensures you achieve a natural-looking and smooth tan without having to step a foot in the sun. You won’t have any streaks or orange patches, which can completely ruin the look of a tan.
The lotion itself blends in easily and dries quickly, allowing you to carry on with the rest of your day without any staining or streaking on linen and clothing. The sunless tan lasts up to a week, which is a lot longer than most self-tanning products.
With ingredients such as Acai Berry, Vitamin E and Mango Butter, the self-tanner is hydrating and nourishing on the skin. It is paraben free and does not contain mineral oils.
For Asian skin tones, this is a great self-tanning option as it is a light and gentle self-tanner that does not look obvious but still gives you a wonderful summer glow.

Applying Self-Tanner for Asian Skin Tones
When it comes to self-tanning lotions for Asian skin Tones, it might be a better idea to choose a tanner that allows you to gradually build a tan until you are happy with the tone, and then one that allows easy maintenance after that.
Many once-off tanners might give too dark of a tan, or give an orange tone that will not look natural at all. By applying a moisturizing self-tanner daily, you are able to lightly and gradually build a tan until you have reached a tan that you are comfortable with. You are always able to build on your tan, but it is difficult to undo a tan that turns out too dark or looks unnatural.
Many daily moisturizing self-tanners have great ingredients that are kind and gentle to your skin, so you will be getting so much more out of it than just a sunless tan. Look for a self-tanning daily moisturizer that has all the right ingredients that help look after your skin. A healthy, nourished skin holds a tan much better, and longer than dry, cracked skin. It is a win-win whichever way you look at it.
How To Correct A Bad Tan
All of us have experienced bad tans. It is part of the self-tanning process, and what better way to learn than learning from our mistakes, no matter how embarrassing they might be. But luckily, there are actually ways to correct a streaky, orange tan. Blemishes can be fixed and your skin should be looking back to normal if you use one of these methods:
Your self-tanner is too dark – If you have applied self-tanner and it develops way too dark to match your natural skin tone, try jumping in the pool. The chlorine should help lighten the darker tones. If you don’t have a pool, take a shower and exfoliate your skin lightly. This should lift some of the self-tanner and lighten the tan a bit. Slather your body in baby oil 10 minutes before your shower, it plumps the skin up and will make exfoliation easier.
Orange color – Landing up with an orange looking tan is unfortunately common, but there are ways to fix this. The best way to dim the orange tone is to brush bronzer over your skin to hide the color. In the future, do a small skin-test with the self-tanner to see what the resultant color will turn out to look like.
Streaky tan – If you have streaky patches once you have applied your self-tanner, you can try and exfoliate with a body polish. The fine beads will help even out the color. Apply a liquid bronzer onto the skin once you have dried off, this will help even out the tan on your skin.
Your hands are a different color to your body – Any normal person will use their hands to apply the self-tanning lotion unless you have some strange magical powers. Without gloves, this can lead to your hands having a longer exposure to the self-tanning lotion, which could result in them turning a darker shade. To fix this, mix a teaspoon of baking powder with half a teaspoon of water and two teaspoons of lemon juice to form a paste. Rub it onto your hands for three minutes and remove it with a warm face cloth. If your hands turn out too light, you can always reapply a small amount of self-tanner to correct the color.
